The tensions arising from the attempt by party elites to contain the demands of ‘traditional’ social democratic constituents – either due to the inability to sufficiently contain demands, or the decline in support resulting from the attempt to do so – acted increasingly to problematize the reproduction of ‘traditional’ social democratic party relations;

This ultimately resulted in a crisis point (or series of crisis points), during which ‘traditional’ social democratic party elites were no longer able to reconcile the conflicting tendencies contained within ‘traditional’ social democratic party relations;

This was therefore followed by a turning point, during which the ‘traditional’ social democratic party leadership sought to reprioritize social democratic party values, witnessing a shift away from the promotion of the decommodification of labour and towards an emphasis upon recommodification.
